Mississippi Sawyer & Variations by Brad Laird is a downloadable Quicktime video mandolin lesson that teaches you to play the old-time fiddle tune Mississippi Sawyer in the key of D. You'll learn a basic version and a second solo showing several ways to embellish the tune using triplets, hammers, pulloffs and doublestops. The lesson reviews the bluegrass style chords used for playing backup in D. Brad then shows you an alternate “jazz style” chord progression which will introduce you to the augmented, minor 7th, 6th, and diminished chords. Tab and notation for both solos and the alternate chord progression are provided with your download. You’ll also receive 2 play-along MP3 tracks for practicing what you learn.
